Alternatives
Alternatives to a motion design agency
There are four alternatives to a motion design agency: a freelancer, a template you customise, a design tool you animate yourself, or an AI generator such as pitchboom.io, an AI motion-design studio for video ads. Agencies on Clutch average $100 to $149 an hour in the US. An agency is still the better choice for a brand concept or custom illustration; for recurring product ads, the other routes usually cost less.

What can you use instead of a motion design agency?
An agency sells a team and a process: concept, script, design, animation, sound and revisions. Each alternative removes part of that team, and part of the cost:
- A freelancer keeps a human animator; you write the brief and run the project.
- With a template or a design tool, someone in your team does the animation.
- An AI generator writes and animates from your existing material (site, screenshots, logo); you review a script or storyboard instead of briefing a person.
How do agency, freelancer, templates and AI generators compare?
| Option | What it costs | Who does the creative work | What you get | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Motion design agency | $100 to $149 an hour in the US, Canada and Australia, $25 to $49 in India, Ukraine and Mexico; most projects under $10,000 (Clutch) | The agency, end to end | A custom piece with creative direction | Brand films, character animation, campaign concepts |
| Freelancer (Upwork, Fiverr) | Set by each freelancer; Fiverr explainer gigs from €5 to €563 | One animator, briefed by you | Depends on the person; you manage it | A defined video and a clear brief |
| Templates and design tools (Envato, Jitter, Canva) | Envato from €14.50/month billed annually; Jitter from €15 per editor/month billed annually; Canva Pro €12/month | Your team | A template with your content, or your own animation | Teams with an in-house editor or designer |
| AI generator (pitchboom.io, Videly, Hera) | pitchboom.io: 500 free credits at signup, no card required, then a 30-second Standard video is 390 credits (about €3.90 at the Starter rate, €3.12 on Premium); Videly from $19/month | The software; you edit and approve | A finished ad from your own material; less bespoke | Product ads and explainers in many formats and languages |
When is an agency still the better choice?
- You need a concept, not only an execution: a story or a campaign idea across several videos.
- The video depends on custom illustration, characters or 3D that do not exist yet.
- You need one accountable team for a large launch, with contracted deadlines and revisions.
- Your brand guidelines are strict and nobody in-house can review motion work.
When does an AI generator like pitchboom.io make sense?
pitchboom.io reads your product page, writes the script and shows a storyboard you edit and approve before rendering; then it adds voice-over (34 languages) and music and recomposes each scene for 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 and 3:4. See how it works and the gallery.
- It fits recurring product ads, launches and explainers for SaaS, apps and online shops.
- It fits volume: format variants, translations and batches, each quoted before you confirm. A 30-second Standard video is 390 credits (about €3.90 at the Starter rate, €3.12 on Premium): see pricing.
- It does not film live action, use stock footage, draw characters or publish ads to your ad accounts.
- Agencies can use it too, for the volume work around a hero piece: see pitchboom for agencies.
How did we choose these options?
We grouped the options by who does the creative work and read each official page on October 25, 2026, printing a figure only when we could read it there that day (Upwork's pages could not be read, so it is mentioned but not listed). pitchboom.io is our product and is listed where it fits.
Questions
How much does a motion design agency cost?
On Clutch, video production agencies average $100 to $149 an hour in the US, Canada and Australia, and most reviewed projects cost under $10,000 (updated September 21, 2026, read October 25, 2026). Length, style and revisions set the final price.
Is a freelancer cheaper than an agency?
Usually, since you pay one person rather than a team: best-selling animated explainer gigs on Fiverr started at €5 to €563 (read October 25, 2026). You take on the brief and the project management.
Can AI replace a motion design agency?
For product ads, launch videos and explainers built from material you already have, an AI generator can produce them, with less bespoke creative work than a custom project. For a new brand concept, characters, custom illustration or 3D, an agency or a freelancer is still the better choice.
Can an agency use pitchboom.io?
Yes: for format variants, translations and batches around a hero piece. Brand Kits keep each client's colors and logo, and the Pro and Premium plans include an MCP server. See pitchboom for agencies.
Is pitchboom.io free to try?
Every new account gets 500 free credits at signup, no card required (about one 30-second Standard video), then plans from €30 a month (excl. VAT) with monthly credits.
