How to make videos with MCP
Add a video MCP server to your assistant (Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Codex), then ask it for a video. With pitchboom.io, an AI motion-design studio for video ads, the assistant creates the project, shows you a quote, waits for your yes, lets you review the storyboard and downloads the MP4. The server comes with the Pro and Premium plans (from €99/month).

What is a video MCP server?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard that lets an AI assistant call tools on another service. A video MCP server exposes tools such as "create a project", "check the job" and "download the file", so you can ask for a video in plain language from the assistant you already work in, instead of opening another app.
pitchboom.io's server lives at https://pitchboom.io/api/mcp. It speaks Streamable HTTP and authenticates with a personal API key sent as an Authorization: Bearer header. There is no OAuth sign-in: you create the key in your account settings, and a key put in the URL is refused. The full reference (every tool, error code and limit) is in the MCP docs.
How do I make a video with the pitchboom MCP server?
1. Check your plan
The tools work on Pro and Premium (from €99/month, excl. VAT; see pricing). Free accounts make their videos in the web app.
2. Create an API key
Signed in, open Settings > API and create a key. Pick the smallest preset that fits: Full access (read, prepare and spend), No spending (the assistant prepares quotes and edits, you confirm paid work in the web app) or Read only. The key is shown once.
3. Add the server to your assistant
In Claude Code, run: claude mcp add --transport http pitchboom https://pitchboom.io/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer pb_live_YOUR_KEY" (add --scope user to use it in every project), then /mcp to check the connection. Other clients are in the table below.
4. Ask for a video and read the quote
Give the assistant a product URL or a brief, the platform and the length. It calls get_credit_balance and get_options, then create_project, which reads your site for free and returns a quote: credits per video, total and balance after. Nothing is charged at this step.
5. Approve the exact amount
Only after you agree does the assistant call confirm_operation, which holds the quoted credits and starts the work. Claude Code asks you before that call every time. Quotes expire after 30 minutes.
6. Review the storyboard
The assistant waits with get_job_status, then shows you get_storyboard: scenes, on-screen texts, voice-over, CTA, voice and music. Changes through update_storyboard are free. When you are happy, approve_storyboard resumes voice-over, music and render within the total you accepted; if the price grew, nothing runs and you get the new total.
7. Download, then iterate
get_video returns signed MP4 links valid for one hour: download right away. After that, edit_video changes texts, order, timing or the CTA, and request_variant quotes a translation, another aspect ratio (recomposed, not cropped), new takes or a 4K export.
Which assistants can connect, and where does the key go?
| Client | Where it goes |
|---|---|
| Claude Code | Terminal: claude mcp add --transport http pitchboom MCP_URL --header "Authorization: Bearer pb_live_YOUR_KEY" (add --scope user for every project) |
| Claude Desktop | The Code tab: paste the same command into a chat and Claude runs it |
| Cursor | ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or .cursor/mcp.json in a project): url and headers |
| VS Code | .vscode/mcp.json: an http server whose key VS Code asks for once and stores |
| Codex CLI | codex mcp add pitchboom --url MCP_URL --bearer-token-env-var PITCHBOOM_API_KEY (the variable's name, not the key) |
| Gemini CLI | gemini mcp add --transport http -s user --header "Authorization: Bearer pb_live_YOUR_KEY" pitchboom MCP_URL |
| Windsurf | mcp_config.json: serverUrl and headers |
| Claude custom connector | Customize > Connectors > Add custom connector, with a request header (a beta not every account shows yet) |
| Other clients | Any client with Streamable HTTP, or the bridge npx -y mcp-remote@latest MCP_URL --header "Authorization: Bearer pb_live_YOUR_KEY" |
Can the assistant use my product's code?
Yes, from a coding assistant. prepare_code_upload packs the repository (git ls-files, secrets and build folders excluded, 50 MB at most) and complete_code_upload starts the analysis; import_code_from_github reads a public repository, or a private one through the pitchboom GitHub App. The videos then rebuild your real screens instead of using screenshots, with your code: Standard +10, Studio +20 credits per second. The assistant must ask you first: your code leaves your machine. delete_code_source removes it at any time. See code to product video.
What other ways are there to make videos with MCP?
Several video tools publish an MCP server. They make different videos, so the right one depends on what you need on screen. The table lists what each documents; plans and prices are on their own pages.
| Server | What it makes | Access | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| pitchboom.io | Motion-design ads from a URL, a brief or your code, with a storyboard to approve | Pro and Premium plans, personal API key | MCP docs |
| Creatify | Avatar, UGC-style and product video ads from a product URL | MCP at api.creatify.ai/mcp; uses plan credits | creatify.ai/features/mcp |
| HeyGen | AI avatar videos, Video Agent, translation and lip sync | Remote MCP with OAuth, documented on all plans | HeyGen MCP docs |
| Arcads | UGC-style ads with AI actors | MCP at mcp.arcads.ai on every plan | Arcads help |
| Runway | Generative video clips (Gen-4.5: 2 to 10 s) | Listed in the Pro and Max plans; uses Runway credits | runway.com/mcp |
| InVideo | Edits on a multitrack timeline, your footage or generated media | MCP at mcp.invideo.io/mcp, plus a CLI | invideo.io/mcp |
| Topview | Generative clips, avatars and link-to-video | Listed from the Plus plan | topview.ai/mcp |
| Jitter | Editable motion-design animations, designed by you | MCP server documented in its help center | Jitter help |
- Pick HeyGen, Arcads or Creatify if the ad needs a person or an avatar on screen: pitchboom makes no avatars or presenters.
- Pick HeyGen or Arcads if you want MCP access without a higher plan: both document it on every plan.
- Pick Runway for generated live-action shots, and InVideo to edit footage you already have.
- Pick Jitter if a designer wants to animate frame by frame; pitchboom writes, animates and renders the ad for you.
- Prefer writing video as code? HeyGen also publishes HyperFrames, an open-source HTML-to-video framework.
Questions
Which pitchboom plans include the MCP server?
Pro and Premium, from €99 a month (excl. VAT). Every new account gets 500 free credits at signup, no card required (about one 30-second Standard video), then plans from €30 a month (excl. VAT) with monthly credits. Those free credits are used in the web app.
Can the assistant spend my credits without asking?
No. Only confirm_operation and approve_storyboard spend credits, and only for a quote or a total you approved; Claude Code asks you before each of those calls. A key with the No spending preset cannot call them at all.
Does the pitchboom MCP server use OAuth?
No. It uses personal API keys created in your account settings, sent as an Authorization: Bearer header. Keys in a URL are refused, and a revoked key or a plan change takes effect on the next request.
Is there a video MCP server for avatar or UGC ads?
Yes, but not pitchboom. HeyGen, Arcads and Creatify document MCP servers for avatar and AI-actor videos (their pages, read October 25, 2026). pitchboom makes motion-design ads only.
