Motion design vs UGC vs AI avatar ads
Choose by what the viewer must see. Motion design animates the product itself: screens, features, offer. UGC films a real person using it, which carries trust. AI avatar ads put a synthetic presenter on screen without a shoot. pitchboom.io, an AI motion-design studio for video ads, makes the first kind only; for the other two, use creators or an avatar tool.

What is the difference between motion design, UGC and AI avatar ads?
- Motion design: the product is the subject. Screenshots, interface, texts, logo and colors are animated scene by scene, with a voice-over and music. No one appears on camera.
- UGC (user-generated content): a real person, often a paid creator or a customer, films themselves on a phone talking about the product or using it. It looks like a post, not an ad.
- AI avatar ads: a synthetic presenter, from a stock library or a digital twin of a real person, reads your script. AI-actor tools apply the same idea to the UGC look (a person holding the product, a selfie-style testimonial).
| Criterion | Motion design | UGC (filmed by creators) | AI avatar and AI-actor ads |
|---|---|---|---|
| On screen | The product: its screens, features and offer | A real person using or talking about the product | A synthetic presenter or actor reading a script |
| What you need | A product page, screenshots or brand assets | Creators to brief, product samples to send, usage rights | A script and an avatar choice (or a recorded personal avatar) |
| Works well for | Software and apps, launches, features, offers, explainers | Physical products, beauty, food, apps shown in real life; social proof | Explainers and talking-head ads without a shoot; many languages |
| Less suited to | Showing a human reaction or a real-world result | Many quick versions, or exact control of every claim | Audiences put off by synthetic people; detailed product demos |
| Changing a line | Edit the text and render again | Ask for a reshoot or re-edit the footage | Edit the script and generate again |
| Example tools | pitchboom.io, Jitter (manual), a motion designer or agency | Your customers, creator platforms, an agency | HeyGen, Synthesia (presenters); Arcads, Creatify (AI actors) |
How do I choose the right format for my ad?
1. Name what the viewer must see
If the sale depends on seeing the product work (an interface, a feature, a before and after on screen), start with motion design. If it depends on trusting a person's experience, start with UGC. If you need a face and a voice but can't film, use an avatar.
2. Check what you already have
A product page with good screenshots is enough for motion design. UGC needs creators, samples and time to brief and review. Avatar ads need a tight script; a personal avatar needs a recording of the person.
3. Match the placement
Feeds like TikTok, Reels and Shorts are vertical and often watched without sound: put the hook on screen in the first seconds and add captions, whatever the format. See the video ad specs.
4. Make two or three versions
Write the same offer as two formats, or the same format with different hooks, and run them against each other on a small budget. See how to A/B test video ad hooks.
5. Keep what wins, refresh the rest
Keep the winning hook and angle, and replace the creative that tires. Formats that are cheap to change (motion design, avatars) are easier to refresh often; UGC gives you fewer, more personal takes.
When is motion design the better choice?
When the product is the argument. A SaaS dashboard, an app flow or a pricing offer is clearer animated than described by someone holding a phone. Motion design also keeps brand control: every text is yours, there is no actor to license, and changing one claim means editing one line.
pitchboom.io builds these ads from your website or a brief: it writes the script, shows an editable storyboard (edits are free) and renders voice-over, music and motion design in 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 and 3:4, voiced in 34 languages. A 15-second Standard ad is 195 credits (about €1.95 at the Starter rate, €1.56 on Premium). See SaaS, apps and the gallery.
When are UGC or avatar ads the better choice?
- UGC is the better choice when trust is the obstacle: a real person's face, voice and hands are what a motion-design ad cannot give. Platforms have rules on paid creator content and disclosures: read your ad platform's policy.
- AI actors (Arcads, Creatify) give the UGC look without shipping products to creators. Arcads says its actors are based on real actors who consented and are paid (arcads.ai, read October 25, 2026).
- Presenter avatars (HeyGen, Synthesia) suit explainers and training-style ads, and translate with lip sync: HeyGen lists 175+ languages, Synthesia 140+ (their pages, read October 25, 2026), far more than pitchboom.
- pitchboom makes none of these: it has no avatars, presenters or filmed footage. If you need a person on screen, one of the tools above is the better choice.
Questions
Which converts better, UGC or motion design?
There is no general answer: it depends on the product, the audience and the placement. UGC tends to fit products people judge by someone's experience; motion design fits products people judge by seeing them work. Test both on your own audience.
Are AI avatar ads the same as UGC?
No. UGC is filmed by a real person. AI avatar and AI-actor ads are generated: a synthetic presenter reads your script, sometimes styled to look like UGC.
Does pitchboom make UGC or avatar ads?
No. pitchboom makes motion-design ads only, built from your site, screenshots, uploads and Brand Kit, with no avatars, presenters or stock footage.
Which format is fastest to change?
Generated formats: in motion design you edit a text and render again, in an avatar tool you edit the script and generate again. Filmed UGC usually needs a new take from the creator.
How much does a motion-design ad cost with pitchboom?
A 15-second Standard ad is 195 credits (about €1.95 at the Starter rate, €1.56 on Premium). Every new account gets 500 free credits at signup, no card required (about one 30-second Standard video), then plans from €30 a month (excl. VAT) with monthly credits.
